BPM-Xchange® is an Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) software specialized in the exchange of non-transactional data amongst a variety of enterprise management tools, different formats and notations.
The BPM-Xchange® integrates modeling tools, repositories or databases by converting, transforming and exchanging both their model data, meta-model data and modeling languages. The latest integration offering includes the connectivity between the business process management platform IBM® Blueworks™ and Microsoft® Office Visio®.
Microsoft® Visio® is an industry standard for diagramming and business process mapping. While Visio® 2010 already supports BPMN™ 1.1 the upcoming version Visio® 2013 will also support the BPMN™ 2.0 notation. By using these BPMN™ templates, Visio® allows to quickly and easily develop BPMN™ process model diagrams.
IBM provides the highly sophisticated business process management SaaS platform called IBM® Blueworks™, formerly named Lombardi Blueprint®. The new platform empowers process owners and business analysts to document business processes and drive business process analysis (BPA) for process improvements in their organization. The Blueworks™ tool supports BPMN™ 2.0 for modeling and can import Visio® diagrams, but BlueWorks™ is not designed to export process models back to Visio®.
However, many organizations are actually using Visio® as their preferred mapping tool for BPA. In such a scenario BPM-Xchange® easily converts IBM® Blueworks™ process models given in XPDL format to Visio® BPMN™ diagrams. In Visio® business experts can enhance business process models by adding BPMN™ shapes, business objects and organizational structures in order to design highly sophisticated process models.
To put this scenario into practice, BPM-Xchange® provides the transformation between the Blueworks™ XPDL export format and the Microsoft® Visio® XML data format (or short: VDX). In this way an organization is able to allow different teams to work together for SoA and BPM projects despite their use of different tools, to protect existing investments in tools and documentation and to save time and money with seamless process model data exchange. Business analysts, for instance, can use their favorite tool Visio® in workshops and scope process models based on existing Blueworks™ BPMN™ models for the needs of an organization to capture business requirements in their challenging ERP projects.
